Black History Month
February is Black History Month. I don’t believe appreciating and learning about Black culture (or any culture) should be limited to a special month or holiday because the practice is trivializing and condescending. However, many excellent resources and knowledge gained from attending events can be found during these times and added to an ever increasing treasure trove of books, music, videos, recipes, artwork and other materials that can be enjoyed any time.
The following resources are my contributions this year to the celebration of Black History. I hope you enjoy them all year long.
Elementary School Level Books:
- Before the Ever After by Jacqueline Woodson
- Blended by Sharon M. Draper
- Stella by Starlight Sharon M. Draper
- Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson

Website Update
Hi readers,
I purchased a technical support plan to help me work out the glitches in my new website, and I think things are working smoothly now. Just in time, because partial lists of the 2025-2026 OBOB book titles have been posted! (LINK)
A reader has requested I create quizzes for the following books, so these will be the new quizzes that will be available:
1. Team Chu and the Battle of Blackwood Arena
2. Falling short by Ernesto Cisneros
3. Always Clementine by Carlie Sorosiak
4. Cat’s Cradle: The Golden Twine – by Jo Rioux
On a different (more positive) note,
If you purchased quizzes previously from my Weebly website (www.obob.me) and now you are unable to download the quizzes, it’s because I recently transferred the Battle of the Books Quiz Center from Weebly to WordPress. Please email me at [email protected] or [email protected] and provide the order number and which product(s) were ordered (especially the grade level). I will email you the quizzes as attachments to an email. I apologize for the inconvenience and any issues you’ve experienced but I believe the new website server will be better in the long run. Thank you for your understanding and patience.
This is my new Battle of the Books Quiz Center website. My new email is [email protected]. Although I will continue to write quizzes for the books used in the Oregon Battle of the Books competitions, now that I’ve been creating quizzes for over ten years and have over 800 quizzes in inventory, I want people to know that my quizzes are useful nationwide as study guides for competitions and also for use in classrooms, homeschools, book clubs, etc.
