Win a book contest!!

I almost always read books on my iPad using the Kindle app so that I can enlarge the text as much as I need. But then I either check the books out from the library or buy them so I can put the page numbers into the quizzes. (Note: page numbers are approximate because they depend on the edition a reader is using – hard over, paperback, Kindle. They also vary depending on the year the specific book was published or re-released. )
Anyway….
I have several books that I bought and they are in great shape because I only needed them for the page numbers. In the past, I’ve given them to the Goodwill store, but I recently had the idea that it would be fun to make a contest for readers to win a book and I would send it to them, along with a hard copy quiz)
One of these books I purchased specifically for this contest idea, Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas (a high school level book), I also bought a book plate signed by the author and stuck it inside the front cover of the book.

Here’s how this contest will work.

  1. Choose the book the reader wants to win.
  2. Provide an email address to use for this contest (it can be the same one you use for this newsletter)
  3. For five days, from July 14-July 18, I’ll email one question from the quiz on the selected book. Readers can answer each question each day, or all at once, or however they want, as long as they respond by the deadline of July 25
  4. For each book, all readers who answer all five questions correctly will be entered into a raffle, and one winner will be randomly selected. I’ll use the the Miniwebtool Random Picker to choose one winner for each level.
  5. I’ll email the winner and request an address to mail the book to.
  6. The three winners will be announced publicly on July 31, 2025 only first name and last initial.

My Review of the middle school level 2026 OBOB title, An Occasionally Happy Family by Cliff Burke – “5.0 out of 5 stars Occasionally heartbreaking, occasionally hilarious!

Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2025

This was one of the best Battle of the Books titles I’ve ever read. It’s a middle school level title, but several times I actually laughed out loud, which rarely happens to me when reading a book for kids. I related strongly to the teenaged siblings and their discomfort about meeting their dad’s girlfriend when he hadn’t even prepared them about her existence. The most important lesson in this book is that honest communication is critical for relationships to thrive, and that emotions should be expressed, even if it hurts, rather than be bottled up.

If you have any problems accessing quizzes you purchased please email me at lisa@bobqc.net and I will will send the quizzes to you as attachments to a reply email.

Website Update

If you purchased quizzes previously from my Weebly website (www.obob.me) and now you are unable to download the quizzes, it’s because I recently transferred the Battle of the Books Quiz Center from Weebly to WordPress. Please email me at lisa@bobqc.net or 14obob@gmail.com and provide the order number and which product(s) were ordered (especially the grade level). I will email you the quizzes as attachments to an email. I apologize for the inconvenience and any issues you’ve experienced but I believe the new website server will be better in the long run. Thank you for your understanding and patience.

This is my new Battle of the Books Quiz Center website. My new email is lisa@bobqc.net. Although I will continue to write quizzes for the books used in the Oregon Battle of the Books competitions, now that I’ve been creating quizzes for over ten years and have over 800 quizzes in inventory, I want people to know that my quizzes are useful nationwide as study guides for competitions and also for use in classrooms, homeschools, book clubs, etc.
